Test Shot Reflection

I did my first test shot with Charlie in the TV Studio it turned out good but the close up of Charlie was out of focus. The short clips of Charlie’s facial expressions turned out very good. The wide camera shot with the both of us in worked very well. The camera was well positioned and the lighting was very good as well. I had correctly positioned Charlie on the close ups to make room for the question headers next to him.

The biggest error was the most important shot, which was the camera on Charlie, the focus was a little bit soft and as a result a bit blurry. It was a good thing that I had made that mistake early and not realised this after my final film was done.

I had decided that I was only going to use 2 cameras for the final draft. Because I wasn’t going to be giving long answers myself only having a short conversation with the interviewee, I decided that a camera was not needed on myself.

Also most of the visual was going to be taken up by the cutaway scenes so I wasn’t too worried about the camera shots on us. So the film will look good just as long as the cutaways are good.

I liked the shots so much that I decided to shot Troy’s actual interview in there, taking everything I learned into consideration.

I used a boom microphone to get the audio nice and clear. In the first take I had Troy focus the sound on Charlie so he would appear louder than me as he was the focus. But for the second take I had him move the mic towards who was talking so we both sound the same level. I will test out each approach and see which I like best.
