At first I wanted to have the sound to go with the cutaways but then I decided to keep the feel of a documentary interview I would have the answer that is been given over the scenes to give the impression that the scene is what they’re imagining.
When I told Fay how I wanted to do it she said that maybe for some scenes I could have the sound and for others have the interviewer sounds.
But once she saw how I wanted to do it she was happy with my idea. I feel like it works better because you can listen to what the interviewee is saying and watch answer come to life.
There were no points where the audio was solely the soundtrack as I feel like it would be too quiet so I made sure to split the cutaway so it would play throughout the whole answer in parts.
This approach meant that I couldn’t have any speech in the cutaways as it would confuse the audience because they would be trying to make out what the person saying and as a result miss what the interviewee is saying or vice versa.
