Proposal – My FMP proposal shows all the thoughts and ideas that I am planning to have in my film as well the research and considerations that went into the making of it. My FMP is my own adoration of the series ‘Teammates 2.0″ which is made by Soccer A.M. My film is named ‘Know Your Classmates’ starring Charlie McBride and Troy Ahorro. The level of quality and detail that was needed to complete this project made it challenging as well as fun to do. But in the end I managed to make an edit that followed my proposal.
Sources – I mainly used secondary sources. These included watching various different interviews of teammates 2.0. This as well as looking at the different content that Sky Sports and Soccer A.M put up. They did coverage of football matches, football discussion panels. I also looked the football/sport games that they have as well. I looked at these because they allowed to gain a scene of how I should conduct my interview. I really like the camera angles that they used and this present in my film. I also like the animations that they had for titles and text. This also heavily influenced my style that I chose and is evident in my film. The football panels show gave me a scene of how to position my subjects. I noticed that not all the interviews had the people siting around a table, but some just sat down on chairs. The camera would come to around waist/knee height so I made sure to replicate this. In order to make sure that I maintained my inspiration throughout, I continued to refer back to the YouTube Channel to make sure in case I deviated. I did not think that there were many other places I could get my inspiration from as I had everything available to me on the internet. I didn’t just look at Teammates 2.0 for ideas. I looked at general interview for many films with the actors to see how they conducted theirs.
Development of Ideas – The development of my idea was the most vital part of the FMP as it was showing my idea and my thought process. I feel it was developed successfully due to the level of detail I applied. I made sure to get constant feedback from my peers and teachers because I was open to any helpful tips. I laid down a plan and timetable to film because in the past I have been poor at timekeeping. Having done this, I was able to film smoothly and without rushing. The way I decided to film meant that I would film a section, edit it and film another section. I was able to keep on track and complete my film by the due date.
Context Links – I found that videos that were similar and related to my idea had a massive impact on my film. These continued to help and support my idea throughout the project. I didn’t really use any ideas from different film makers. I solely used ideas from Soccer A.M as a whole, not one particular person. The further I progressed through the project, the more media links I discovered. I started to watch various interviews with actors from hit films. I also watched different Soccer A.M content, as they also make football analysis shows and they host skills games. I studied the camera techniques. I knew I could get inspiration if I needed it. I think it important to look at filmmakers work as they are professionals at what they do. So you in trust the work to we high quality.
Problems – I ran into some problems while shooting. The most notable one was having to relocate Charlie’s interview to the edit suite as the photography room was not available after the one time I got to use it. This was because the photography students got first priority to use it. The problem was easily worked around at did not ruin the film in anyway. I encountered a problem while editing with the audio. It for some reason was only playing out of one ear. This was also easily fixed with the feature ‘Fill Right with Left’, and then raising the overall sound levels with Adobe Auction. This is done for all the sound because the overall sound level was too low and very patchy, with at being higher in some areas and lower in others. This was also solved with Adobe Auction. These issues did not affect my time schedule greatly, only by a day.
Skills I learned – I have learned various skills throughout many different projects during my time at college. There were a number of things that I hadn’t tried before so I made sure to try and attempt new things. I had never directed an entire project with these many people before, so this was a new experience. I learned how to organise people and oversee multiple people. This taught me how to time keep better. In the past my timekeeping has let me down which leads to me rushing my work. I would say my strength has always been camera operating but in this film I was on camera. So for this project my strength did change to directing as I was the director. This included me having to be responsible for equipment and my casting crew. This was something that I enjoyed doing and wouldn’t mind doing in the future.
Outcomes – My outcome was a completed film that was exactly what I wanted, I felt that the project was a good take on my version of Teammates 2.0. I feel I was very successful with my outcomes as the film was completed before the due date and received positive praise. One thing I would do differently next time is have more interviewee, to get more people’s views. This would make the film more interesting and I could have told people what other people said and have them disagree and give their view. I would change my idea and maybe have multiple people on at once and have a conversation type show, where we could just openly discuss our views. I would say my strengths in this film were the composition and dialogue. The shot visually was great especially on Troy’s interview in the TV Studio. The lighting was spot and his answers were interesting and funny and set up for some interesting cutaways. My strength also lied in the cutaways. The scenes were funny and had great shots. They also didn’t take away from the answer and had great continuity. My outcome communicated my concept/theme very well. I feel like if I showed somebody an episode of Teammates 2.0 and then showed them my film, they’d understand where the idea came from. You can tell the core of the film came from it as I have used many style techniques and themes from it.
Retrospect – My experiences and learning will help me in future development and practice because there were many different situations and obstacles that I learned from. My time keeping skills have significantly improved massively. My directing skills have improved as I had to manage multiple people. With this my communication skills and teamwork skills improved. This will help in the future as I will have to work in a team and talk to others.
Conclusion – In conclusion I learnt to create a project from a set task, using my own inspiration and under my own guidance. I also learned how to find and use the relevant sources to add to my idea and strengthen the overall film. I learned different skills that will apply in later life. To conclude my overall project, I thought it went very well, of course it could have been better in some minor areas but I feel it’s a strong piece of work.
