Fay suggested, that for my cut scenes I used a tripod. At the time, I’m not so sure she fully understood what my idea was. I had to explain that I wanted my cut scenes to appear like they were from someone’s point of view.
My regular go-to technique would be to use a tripod, As this normally looks better in most situations. Almost every film that you watch will have some use of a tripod.
However, having looked at my classmate Freya’s film. Her film was also a mockumentary. I took some inspiration from hers as I really liked her technique and camerawork.
One thing I really liked about it was the scene where Charlie first walked in to the classroom and starts disturbing people and they give him dirty looks. here, the entire scene is handheld with Freya doing the camerawork.

I like the handheld movement idea in general because it allows you to make the audience focus on what you want them to focus on.
While it is true that using a tripod normally leaves you with a nicer shots, in this situation doing handheld camera work was better.

This was proven in the scene with Charlotte and Rory, where Charlotte all the sudden appears behind Rory. This could’ve been done with a tripod but I would’ve had to remove the panning shot, which is what makes the scene funny.
